Over the centuries, Valentine's Day has been a religious feast day and a secular day of romance. In its earliest incarnation, it was even a ritual celebrating fertility and springtime. Given how much it's changed over time, we say the meaning of Valentine's /Galentine’s Day can be whatever you want.
At Well + Being – we encourage REAL self care and for it to be an ongoing internal process. Massages and saunas are nice – but the effects do not last long and lead us to an illusion that we have “looked” after ourselves.
Reconnecting with ourselves can be scary too and it takes courage to do so and have ownership over our lives. Real self care isn't something we can buy- it's a way to be – a way to look after our physical, mental, emotional and physical beings.
I have coached a few clients who are navigating negative self talk (impacting their health outcomes), and I have seen transformation when they practice self compassion. And these practices are not easy and require a lot of courage.
Why self-compassion requires courage
Fear of failure: People who are perfectionists or have a fear of failure may find it difficult to be self-compassionate.
Fear of the unknown: People may be afraid to practice self-compassion because it's new to them.
Fear of difficult emotions: People may be afraid to confront their pain because they think it will lead to overwhelming emotions.
If the timing is right for you to practice REAL self care or self compassion, I’m here to guide you, to support you, to create a safe space for you to do so. Not only that, with my master health coaching (metabolic, mental fitness, lifestyle medicine) and an extensive background in pharmacy and nutritional medicine, I am well placed to solve your health and lifestyle puzzle.
