Yin Yoga

4-5min holds ( freedom to come out when you need to is always encouraged)

As we age, our bones begin to degenerate, we lose mobility in our joints, and our fascia tightens. But a consistent Yin Yoga practice helps to regain mobility and ease pain in the body. This is because it applies gentle, healthy stress to our joints and gentle stretch to our connective tissues. We create collagen and elastin, water loving molecules that hydrate our tissues and joints. Yin Yoga is an excellent counter to the more physically demanding – or yang – yoga disciplines. This deep stretching is the perfect way to end your busy day or to help balance your other physical activities so you can stay flexible to help avoid injury. Yin also balances internal organs and improves flow of prana. (chi, energy/life force)

Suitable for all ages and all levels.

What classes do you offer?

Well + Being offers a wide range of classes designed to meet the unique needs and preferences of our guests. Our yin yoga classes offer a tranquil and unhurried practice that focuses on deep stretching and relaxation. If you're seeking a nurturing environment for inner connection, our breathwork classes are an excellent choice. For those who prefer a more energetic and fluid workout, our barre classes are an ideal option. If you're interested in lengthening and toning your body through resistance training, our Reformer Pilates classes are tailored to your goals.

I am new to movement; what class should I start with?

If you're new to physical activity, we suggest beginning with a class designed for beginners. These classes are designed to familiarise you with fundamental techniques, enabling you to establish a solid groundwork for your practice. Look for classes with the words "Beginner," "Gentle," or "Foundations" in their class description to ensure they match your skill level. Moreover, feel free to seek recommendations from our team members; they'll be happy to assist you in making the right choice.

Can I do your classes if I have an injury or health condition?

Yes, you can do most of our movement classes if you have an injury or health condition, but it's always recommended to speak with your doctor before starting any new exercise program. You should also inform your teacher of any injuries or health conditions you have before the class begins. They may be able to provide modifications or adjustments to help you safely practice. It's also important to listen to your body and not push yourself beyond your limits.

What should I wear?

For our Yoga, Barre and Reformer classes, it's best to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely. You will be moving through various postures & exercises, so it's important that your clothes do not restrict your movement. It's also a good idea to wear clothing that is not too loose or baggy, as this can get in the way during certain postures. Avoid wearing anything too tight or restrictive, as this can make it difficult to breathe properly. As for shoes, typically, no shoes are worn in our movement studio, so either wear socks (we have some great non-slip socks available for purchase) or go barefoot.

For our breathwork & Sound healing classes, loose, comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement is recommended. You will likely be seated or lying down for the duration of the class, so wear something that won't restrict your movement or cause discomfort. It's also advisable to avoid wearing heavy or bulky clothing, as you will want to be comfortable and relaxed during your class.

Do I need my own mat?

You are welcome to bring your own mat. However, we do have eco-friendly mats available to use for free at the studio.

Are there changing rooms and showers available?

Our facilities include changing rooms and a powder room for your convenience before or after class. If you're looking to freshen up with a shower, we recommend booking one of our sauna, float or contrast sessions which all come equipped with a shower. Alternatively, there is a single shower on site, please ask one of our wellbeing attendees if you would like to use this after your class.

Can I eat before attending a movement class?

It is generally recommended to avoid eating a heavy meal 2-3 hours before a movement class. Eating a large meal before practising can make you feel uncomfortable and sluggish during class. It is also important to stay hydrated before, during and after the class, so make sure to drink plenty of water.

Are there any age restrictions for taking a movement class?

There are typically no age restrictions for taking our movement classes. These classes can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. However, it's always a good idea to check with the studio team or the instructor before attending a class, as some classes may be more physically demanding and may not be suitable for certain ages or abilities. If you have any concerns or doubts, it's always best to ask the instructor or our studio team if they have any classes that would be more appropriate for you.

Can I drop in for a class, or do I need to pre-register?

To make sure you have a space its best to reserve online in advance, you can view our timetable above to book.

Are there any membership or package deals available?

Yes, we have both packages and memberships available; please see above for details or pop us an email at hello@wellandbeing.nz for more info.

What is Breathwork?

At Well + Being, we offer a unique and transformative experience with our breathwork classes. Breathwork is a practice that utilizes specific breathing techniques to enhance overall well-being. During our classes, our experienced instructors will guide you through different breathwork methods such as pranayama, holotropic, and coherence breathwork, each with its own unique benefits.

Breathwork is a powerful tool that can help to release stored emotions, reduce stress, and increase feelings of calm and well-being. It can also help to improve sleep, relieve pain and promote a sense of inner peace. This practice can have a positive impact on physical, emotional and mental well-being. Additionally, Breathwork is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels and can be particularly beneficial for those who are recovering from injuries or illnesses. At Well + Being, we strive to provide our guests with an experience that benefits both the mind and body through the practice of Breathwork.

Is it necessary to have prior experience before taking a Breathwork class?

No, it is not necessary to have prior experience before taking a breathwork class. Breathwork is a practice that is open to everyone, regardless of skill level or experience. Our Breathwork classes will provide instruction and guidance for beginners, and the class will be tailored to the needs and experience level of the group. Even if you have never done Breathwork before, you can still participate and benefit from a class.
