LED Red Light + Recovery Therapy

Cellular Regeneration with LED Red Light therapy

Red and near-infrared (NIR) light therapy, often simply referred to as “red light therapy”, is a type of therapy that uses specific wavelengths of light to bring about positive health benefits.

  • Stimulates wound healing and tissue repair
  • Reduces aging effects by supporting collagen production
  • Reduces pain by decreasing swelling and inflammation
  • Improves joint health
  • Improves physical performance through improved muscle recovery and energy levels
  • Improves sleep quality and duration

Science-Based Benefits

Scientific study has resulted in the development of redlight therapy, which effectively restores muscle tissue and improves performance. These wavelengths have been demonstrated to be bioactive, meaning they influence the functioning of our cells, by using components of the light emitted by the sun.

Reduces Pain and Inflammation

Studies have confirmed that Red Light Therapy can improve a variety of chronic pain symptoms and conditions, such as arthritis, back pain, and fibromyalgia.

By reducing inflammation, boosting collagen synthesis and regenerating cartilage, Redlight Therapy has been shown to effectively treat symptoms of degenerative osteoarthritis and inflammatory rheumatoid arthritis, headaches and migraines.

One study treated fibromyalgia sufferers with red light therapy three times a week. Not only did they have reduced pain at the end of the study, but fatigue had substantially decreased too.

Better Deeper Sleep

Red Light Therapy can help regulate your natural circadian rhythm and help you fall asleep more easily. Red Light helps the mind and body to wind down and encourages the production of the sleep hormone melatonin. A 2012 study found that 30 minutes of Red Light Therapy each night for two weeks improved sleep quality and blood levels of melatonin.

Improves Exercise Performance and Recovery

When used after physical activity, Red Light Therapy can improve blood circulation and oxygenation in muscle tissue to prevent delayed onset muscle soreness and speed up muscle repair and growth. Research suggests that Red Light Therapy can: Improve muscle strength, Reduce muscle fatigue, Reduce muscle damage, Lower lactic acid production

Improves Skin

Red Light therapy boosts blood flow, bringing oxygen and nutrients to the skin cells to encourage healing, reduce inflammation and increases the production of collagen.

A 2014 study found that participants who underwent two weekly sessions of Red Light Therapy saw significant improvements in their complexion. Research has also confirmed that Red Light Therapy can improve the skin by healing and reducing: Acne, Scars, Burns, Sun damage and Skin discolouration

A 2010 study on treatment-resistant psoriasis sufferers found that two 20-minute Red Light Therapy sessions resulted in a 60 – 100% reduction in psoriasis.

Increases Wound Healing

Research has found that Red Light Therapy can help reduce tissue inflammation, encourage the formation of new blood vessels and tissues and improve collagen levels. A 2014 study on patients recovering from heart surgery found that Red Light Therapy reduced pain and bleeding and increased wound healing.

Improves Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy is whereby high blood sugar causes nerve damage. Red Light Therapy could provide relief and improve quality of life by boosting circulation and reducing pain and cell damage. Research has shown that Red Light therapy significantly reduce symptoms when applied to the feet of sufferers for fifteen minutes three times per week.

Improves Hair Growth

Red Light Therapy is a safe, natural and effective way to encourage hair growth in men and women. A 2014 study on women with alopecia found that using red light therapy every other day for 25 minutes resulted in a 37% increase in hair growth.

Improves Eye Health

Red Light Therapy has been shown to improve vision in people with age-related macular degeneration.

Improves Thyroid Function

Red Light Therapy may be a great natural treatment for those with hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) and Hashimoto’s. A 2013 study found that Redlight Therapy improved thyroid function and reduced autoimmune thyroid antibodies.

Better Brain Health

Red Light penetrates deep into the body, and has been shown to improve learning, memory, reaction times and mood.

Do I need to bring anything?

No, we have some tips and recommendations above to consider on the day of your appointment, however, we provide everything you need for your session.

Before your session please remove all jewellery that could refract light. Remove as much makeup as possible, and limit the use of lotions, especially ones with light-blocking agents.

What do I wear in for red light therapy?

Most users prefer to as little clothing as possible. Delivering natural light to more surface area of your body leads to better light therapy outcomes, but full nudity is not required for effective use. Lighter garments (underwear, bras, and socks) may be worn without hampering a treatment, though the covered areas not exposed directly to the light won’t receive any benefits.

Do I need to wear eye protection?

Yes. We provide eye protection.

While there is a growing body of scientific research suggesting that modest amounts of red and NIR LED light may benefit certain eye conditions, Mito Red's plug-in lights are very bright!

As such, eye protection is provided with each light and should be worn when facing the lights, particularly when NIR is active. The eye protection included is specifically designed for these wavelengths of light.

When using, DO NOT stare directly into the light emitting diodes (LEDs).

What will it feel like? Is it hot?

The lights themselves do not become warm; however your circulation increases throughout the treatment, so you may experience a feeling of warmth. A quick energy boost or feeling of euphoria is also possible.

How long do you recommend for each Red-light therapy session?

8-10-minute treatments at 4-6 inches from the device is optimal. 15-20 minutes for symptomatic areas may be beneficial, but beyond that, the evidence points to diminishing returns (your cells can only absorb so much light at once). For this reason, we recommend you allow at least 6 hours between treatments of the same area.

What is red light therapy?

Redlight therapy is a completely natural and non-invasive treatment that heals the body on a cellular level by stimulating the to generate more of the energy molecules called ATP. In turn, this enables the cells to perform efficiently and allows the body to heal. Redlight therapy has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, improves the overall health and resilience of cells and increases blood flow. Red more below.

Is red light therapy safe?

Red light therapy is safe and non-invasive, it uses very low levels of heat and doesn’t hurt or burn the skin. It’s not the same type of light used in tanning booths, and it doesn’t expose your skin to damaging UV rays.

Who cannot use red light therapy?

Red light therapy is considered very safe and non invasive, however If you have any ongoing health conditions please book an appointment to chat with one of our doctor’s first, you can also ask your regular GP.

Are there any side effects?

No, treatment is non-toxic, non-invasive, and has no side effects. It is safe and effective for most people.

For your first  session, we recommend arriving no later than 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This ensures we can give you a full walk through beforehand without taking away from your time in the therapy.

Any sessions past your first time, you can arrive 5 minutes before.
