Lifestyle/Integrative Medicine

Treating the root causes of illness and reversing chronic conditions.

Lifestyle Medicine heavily emphasises evidence-based non-drug related treatments – nutrition, movement, mindfulness, sleep and socially related realms – as the cornerstone treatment/prevention for many diseases.

Generally, lifestyle medicine looks to treat the root cause of chronic disease, or illness, rather than the symptoms in which medication treats typically.

Our medical practitioners  offers a different service from conventional General Practice. They approach their work from a more natural health perspective (termed complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) by the medical council) although they may include conventional medical options when they are appropriate.

They will discuss with you, appropriate to their scope of practice, options available for you to consider with regards to investigations and treatments. Keeping in mind the amount of information you are interested in, the medical practitioner will discuss with you conventional options and other (CAM) options. They will act honestly and in good faith and in a manner that is consistent with their professional, legal and ethical obligations.

What do Well + Being health coaches do / what training have they had?

All our health coaches have been trained and certified by the New Zealand-founded organisation Prekure. In addition, all our health coaches hold respected credentials such as degrees in nursing, pharmacy, physical education and biology from accredited institutions and universities.

All our health coaches have studied the science of behaviour change in their degree programs or additional certifications. This allows them to best support members in making long-term lifestyle changes to benefit their health and wellness goals.

Whats the difference between a health coach and a doctor?

Unlike our doctors, our health coaches are not there to give you detailed medical advice. instead, our health coaches are there to support and motivate you to make the necessary lifestyle changes according to your wellness plan and optimise your overall health and wellbeing.

Our health coaches work closely alongside our doctors to keep you on track and supported throughout your wellness journey.

Health coaches will not order lab testing or prescribe medication. They may however recommend you see one our doctors for a more detailed analysis if needed.

What is the Well + Beings approach to prescription medication?

Prescription drugs are an essential tool of modern medicine and may be prescribed by our doctors. All of our doctors have been trained in conventional medical schools or nursing schools and are licensed to prescribe pharmaceutical medication.

In addition to prescriptions, we also offer medication reviews by our in-house pharmacist.

Our goal however is to only prescribe the medicine needed for treating the root cause of illness. In addition, for some people, conventional therapies or prescriptions may not work or be necessary. Many medicines today are designed to manage symptoms rather than treat the root cause of illness. In addition, some come with unwanted side effects.

For example, for certain conditions such as type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes, you may not need to take metformin or insulin. You may simply need a change in diet and lifestyle. Instead of relying solely on prescription medication, our wellness team will work with you to help reverse diabetes and get you off medication.

What types of advanced testing does Well + Being offer?

Our blood tests offer in advanced analysis of:

– essential nutrients

– thyroid function

– cardiovascular health and metabolic functioning

– inflammatory markers, hormones, and more.

In addition we offer more advanced testing which can dive deeper in particular health concern. These include:
– DNA and genetic testing and evaluation
– gut microbiome and digestive function,
– stress and reproductive hormone testing,
– food sensitivity,
– energy and metabolism
