What training have Well + Being Lifestyle Medicine Doctors had?

All our Medical Practitioners are fully qualified practicing medical doctors and are registered with the New Zealand Medical Council.

Our Doctors have undergone extensive additional training in Lifestyle Medicine using integrative evidence based nutrition and lifestyle interventions to prevent, treat and reverse disease.

What do Well + Being Health & Wellbeing Coaches do ?

All our Health & Wellbeing Coaches have been trained and certified by the New Zealand-founded company Prekure. In addition, all our health coaches hold respected credentials such as degrees in nursing, pharmacy, physical education and biology from accredited institutions and universities.

All our Health & Wellbeing Coaches have studied the science of behaviour change in their degree programs or additional certifications. This allows them to best support members in making long-term lifestyle changes to benefit their health and wellbeing goals.

Whats the difference between a health coach and a doctor?

Unlike Doctors, our Health & Wellbeing Coaches are not there to give you detailed medical advice. instead, they are there to support and motivate you to make the necessary lifestyle changes according to your wellness plan and optimise your overall health and wellbeing.

They work closely alongside our Doctors to keep you on track and supported throughout your wellbeing journey.

Health & Wellbeing Coaches will not order lab testing or prescribe medication. They may however recommend you see one of our Doctors for a consultation.

What is the Well + Beings approach to prescription medicine?

Prescription medicine are an essential tool of modern medicine and may be prescribed by our Doctors. All of our Doctors have been trained in conventional medical schools and are licensed to prescribe Prescription Only Medicine.

In addition to prescriptions, we also offer medication reviews by our in-house pharmacist.

Our goal however is to only prescribe the medicine needed for treating the root cause of illness. In addition, for some people, conventional therapies or prescriptions may not work or be necessary. Many medicines today are designed to manage symptoms rather than treat the root cause of illness. In addition, some come with unwanted side effects.

For example, for certain conditions such as type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes, you may not need to start on medication. You may simply need a change in diet and lifestyle. Instead of relying solely on prescription medication, our wellbeing team will work with you to help reverse diabetes and get you off medication.

What types of advanced testing does Well + Being offer?

Our blood tests offer in advanced analysis of:

– essential nutrients

– thyroid function

– cardiovascular health and metabolic functioning

– inflammatory markers, hormones, and more.

In addition our Doctors may order advanced testing which can dive deeper in particular health concern. These include:
– DNA and genetic testing and evaluation
– gut microbiome and digestive function,
– stress and reproductive hormone testing,
– food sensitivity,
– energy and metabolism

Do I keep seeing my regular GP?

Many people seek out complementary treatments such as Lifestyle Medicine, and we encourage you to keep your regular GP fully informed.

Please let us know whether you would like us to communicate with your regular GP. We would prefer to keep them informed if possible.

Can Well + Being be my primary health care provider?

While all our doctors practice internal and family medicine, we recommend that you keep seeing your GP for urgent, same-day visits and vaccinations, which we don’t provide at Well + Being.

Does Well + Being provide urgent or acute care?

Well + Being provides long-term ongoing health support however, we are not an urgent care provider and are not available for same-day emergency appointments. If you have a medical emergency, we recommend that you visit your GP, Urgent Doctors or a hospital.

Will my appointment be covered by ACC?

As this is not a GP clinic, government subsidies such as ACC or Community Services Card are not applicable. You may however be able to claim insurance via your private provider. Please reach out to your provider to check.

What happens at the first appointment?

Before your first appointment, we will send you a detailed confidential questionnaire to gain a better understanding of your current situation.

The first session is always 60 minutes long, to allow enough time for us to really get to know your, your goals and your health history.

During your first session, your Doctor will go through this with you, listen to your concerns, develop a personalised road map and order any new lab tests needed.

What happens at follow up appointments?

Follow up appointments are used to review and if necessary modify the treatment according to the plan that has been given to you.

Often treatment plans will evolve depending over time. Follow-up appointments are usually for 60 or 30 minutes.

What if I am undiagnosed?

Living with unexplainable symptoms and undiagnosed conditions can be extremely challenging, stressful and tiring. As our sessions are much longer than conventional health centres, we have the time to closely work with you to locate the root cause of your unexplained illnesses and help you finally feel better.
